The Battling Beavers had their first organization meeting for the upcoming CQ WW DX contest. The SSB portion of the contest is on the Oct. 30/31 weekend and the CW comes Nov. 27/28. These two contests, along with the ARRL DX Contests (CW – Feb. 20/21 and SSB – March 6/7) are the four big contests of the year. Thousands of amateurs around the world participate. Dozens of guys travel to exotic locations to work these contests.

We’ll be setting up a multi-op, single transmitter category station, This category allows for one transmitter on continuously while a second transmitter is used to work new stations that provide a new multiplier to the overall station score.

Sideband contests especially require the best operators using the best equipment with full-on amplifiers into the biggest antenna systems that can be erected for the weekend. Some stations are live-streaming during the contests so if you aren’t able to compete yourself this is a great way to share in the excitement.

Also if you’ve got a less than ideal contest station don’t worry. Everybody can have fun. There will be lots of great DX on the bands and here’s a trick: Sunday afternoon when everybody has worked everybody else if you show up with your 100-watt signal into a dipole everyone will want to work you.
