RAC’s Best Kept Secret

Having dumped all over the RAC directors in my last post (about five minutes ago) I thought it only fitting to point out one very positive RAC asset:

The Canadian Amateur.

Editor Alan Griffin (tcamag@yahoo.ca) is to be congratulated on another first-class issue of TCA. Cover_September_2014_large

I was a former national and group national magazine editor. I used to search longingly to hire editors half as good as Alan. He’s working with an insufficient budget and little help to produce a wonderful national magazine for all of us (if you’re a RAC member).

Anybody who complains about TCA obviously can’t read and doesn’t appreciate the pictures.

I’m reading the digital issue and aside from the president’s message which should be relegated to the back pages and replaced by one of the really interesting technical or operating articles to be found inside, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Folks you’re going to miss TCA when it’s gone and IMHO it’s one of the best things still working in RAC. (What it really could use is a full-time commissioned sales person to sell ads to the Americans who have the cash to help support our national publication.)

The only other thing I’d do is publish the past issues online for free say 90 days after the publication date. Look nobody joined RAC so they could get TCA (although they should) so why not use TCA as a way of finding new members (who want the current issue in their inbox) but this would require some vision in RAC and see below to see what I think of how likely that is.
